Saw an add in a flyer that had the new Logitech MX5000 bluetooth keyboard mouse combo - keyboard has an LCD screen looks to be the same as G15 but different builtin software - Media Center keypad instead of macro keys.

That doesn't surprise me. It makes sense that Logitech would invent the hardware and then put it on many products.

Actually had an MX5000 before getting the G15.
IMO one of the worst products I've ever seen Logitech release. LCD is non-backlit, media center keys are garbage. Serious issues with connectivity and lag for both the mouse and especially the keyboard.
Stay clear of it, if you value your sanity.

How can I value my sanity when I have none to begin with...

I've got the MX5000 combo. I think it's cool! I haven't installed the drivers for it yet though. I did experience lag once, but the system it's on doesn't have much RAM. After closing a few programs the "lag" went away.
I have it on an HTPC though, so maybe the problems show up more if you're trying to play games with it...?
I dunno, it looks ugly to me :|

Quite possible it works well for an HTPC.
Used it for both games and typing up some sales reports and such. Was a frustration in games, and frequently double-types letters Could be my fault for using the latest Logitech drivers and whatnot. Although I couldn't get the touch keys to work without installing their drivers.

Now that you mention it, I have experienced the double-type thing (and I really haven't done much typing on it).
I liked the idea of the volume slider thing on the left, but since I don't have the drivers installed I can't use them either. I honestly don't think I'll use it very much... hmmm............
I just realized, I have the mouse charger over by the computer, where it's inconvienient, when I could put it over by the couch where it would be very convienient. Old habbits die hard I guess...
By the way, this keyboard + mouse is on sale at CompUSA this week ('til 1-21-06) for ~$100 after a $30 rebate.

It got G15 LCD builtin to the frame, but no G geys, got basic multimedia keyboard functions pretty much. Bluetooth wireless.

Something else to keep in mind, and I could be wrong, as I'm going off memory with this one, but, I *THINK* that the LCD is not as "accessible" as the G15 . . . meaning that you can't run the custom apps and things on it.
But again, I'm going off memory and rumour, so, take that with a grain of salt.

I think the G15 is a much nicer looking board. The media center one is alot smaller, but I have never had any problem with the size of the G15.

AFAIK from my week and a half of using the MX5000, the LCD was not programmable like the G15, it is also not backlit in any way shape or form.

MX5000 == Better than most KBs.
G15 == Better than All KBs.

I was really close to buying this actually. Was in toronto past few days and read about the G15 (what i'm currently typing on haha) and went to bestbuy up there to look for it. They had it for 99.99 (canadian, so 80.00 USD or so), but with tax it came up to 115.90 (105.70 in USD) since they have INSANE tax rates (almost 20% with QST -- secondary tax) and they had crappy exchange rates at bestbuy.
Anyway they DID have this keyboard fairly cheap and I was very close to just buying it except I don't need a mouse (i'm using the MX700 and I love it). good thing I didn't buy it lol the G15 is SO much better I love this thing. keys are incredibly comfortable to type on as well

Um... the two taxes are GST (Government Sales Tax) and PST (Provincial Sales Tax), and they are 7% and 8% (although I have no idea which is which). That makes 15%, not 20%.
And you should have looked around online first, Canada Computers (http://canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=008392&cid=PE.703) has it for $80 CDN, but they are now out of stock (for obvious reasons).

As well, I believe that visitors to Canada from the US or other countries can apply after their trip for a rebate on one of the taxes up here, can't remember if it's our provincial sales tax or our goods and services tax . . . either way, you should be able to claim 7 or 8 percent of that back.

volume sliders are cool. I use the G keys so that would be a major negative for me.

Volume sliders would be cooler if they worked heh, one stroke (from top to bottom) drops volume from 100% to 91% or thereabouts. There's really no way in the software to tweak the sensitivity. You should have grabbed the MX5000 if it was only 100 bucks, BestBuy and Futureshop both retail the MX5000 at 229.99 + tax, hell of a deal :) Probably resell it to someone for a profit.
GST is Goods & Services Tax 7% (currently, new PM promised a drop to 5%)
PST is Provincial Sales Tax 8%

100 bucks for 3 keys scales up to almost 3,500 bucks for a full keyboard. That's a bit much... it does look vey "Mac-like", though.
