So I'm a heavy fps and mmo player.
And well my keyboard just doesn't cut it anymore.
I saw the Logitech g13 and was rather impressed at what I'd figure it is capable of doing. But I've got a few questions that I'd love if you guys could answer, that way I have a better idea of what I'm buying.
So firstly how are the new windows 7 drivers. Everything works right?
The joystick, say in WoW or Age of Conan, I'd like to bind WASD to the joystick so that I can move foward left right and back by just pressing the correct location, does it work like this? And does the joystick work in diagnoals. like say I press W and A I move north west, or does the joystick only use one key at a time?
The macros, are they only assigned to the top keys? Or can I place them on any of the keys on the G13?
What exactly can the macros do. Can I set it to press 1 then wait .25seconds then 5? Is it capable of adding a delay between key entries? I have a slight bit of lag on my internet 150ish ms latency and I'd hate to see macros steping on its own toes. (so to speak.)
I hear that the joystick is rather small and has issues, what are those issues? Are they anything that I should stear clear of? Or can I mod the joystick so that it functions better to my needs.
Thanks very much those that stop by and read my wall of text, and extra special thanks to those that answer any of my questions! Looking forward to using a Logitech g13, I've loved the other logitech items I've bought, G5 v2. And the Wave keyboard!

I have no idea about the Win7 drivers, but I think some have had problems. You'd have to ask Logitech about release schedules and bug fixes.
The joystick does diagonals, and can be set as analogue joystick, keys, or mouse. I have no problem with the joystick other than tthe shape/size of it - I would prefer it to be flatter, and possibly rubberised.
Only the special G-keys can be assigned macros/scripts/shortcuts/etc.
Delays can be included in macros, and scripting makes more complex macros possible. The average macro shouldn't cause lag.

I can't comment on W7, but it works perfectly in Vista Ultimate.
I play LOTRO mainly, and for me the stick is too clumsy feeling for movement. I use it for strafing and push-to-talk in Vent or in-game voice.
All the 25 programmable keys can use macros, single keys, or even program shortcuts. Macros can be recorded with or without delay between keystrokes, whichever is needed.
I might add that the G13 is very comfortable too. I have a G11, and there's no comparison in regards to comfort, my hand rests nicely on the G13 and I haven't experienced any fatigue while gaming.

Thats one of the big consurns I had, was if it did diagonals or not. As to it being rubberish, I wonder if I can get a moded joystick to put in place of the manufacture one...

Well most everything that runs on vista runs on 7. So if its running on vista I'm pretty sure it'll run on 7.

I'm figuring the joystick + the mouse would work just fine, Clumsy, as in the fact that its to small? Or isn't very accurate?

Thats great to hear.

Yah I was planning on going with the G13 over other types of Gamepads due to simply that, the G13 looks like its made to fit the hand...

You're gonna' have no end of trouble if you really believe that. ;)

Clumsy in the movement sense, it's like console gamepad sticks. Probably something I could get used to, but just not my cup of tea. I use WASD + mouse.

I have Win7 Ultimate 64bit, and it works perfect (as far as i can tell), so i would imagine it would work with all versions of win7. :)

i have had my g13 for a while now and its excellent - a truly beautiful piece of tech.
its very different from the Nostromo N52, but seems perfect for fps /gta etc and is good for firing shortcut keys at programs. i use mine for zmodeler keyboard shortcuts most of the time.
also the option to display winamp info etc is pretty cool too. i have 3 monitors but i still like to save space and put all my system monitors etc on my g13 & g19 screens (i know, 3 screens is ridiculous, but i like it)
the only problem i have had with the g13 so far is it does get slightly uncomfortable after using it for a few hours, but that could just be the height of my desk, dont let it put you off...
one thing worth looking at is "The Mod". this converts the odd shaped thumbstick to a nice one.
I found a MUCH EASIER way, by killing my playstation2 controller by twisting the rubber off the analogue stick, and attaching it with blu-tack to the thumbstick of my g13. its much more comfortable, and saves having to take the g13 apart (although you do have to sacrifice an old playstation controller)

That's actually a ruddy good idea!
I'm pretty sure I have a cheap rip-off USB controller somewhere that I don't mind dissecting, and I have found myself considering a tentative modification of my beloved G13. Though I can 'live' with the thumb-stick the way it is, a little more 'thumbability' would actually make it more useful.
I haven't really made much use of it as an analogue device, though it's great for giving mouse controls a loopy boost when piloting gunships in Battlefield 2142. I've mostly been using it for view switches or weapon/trigger switches in Modern Warfare 2.

ORDERED. Should be here by friday. Mmm. I'll post once I get it, and hopefully there will be 0 problems. I've got high hopes, but Logitech tends to do pretty good at achieving them.

I'm loving this G13, everything works better than I thought it would even. Only problem I have is that infact as everyone says the Joystick is just a tad bit small. Hard to use well. Other than that, this is an amazing product and I will be suggesting it to all my friends!
